The CAD Design Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Taking ownership of small to large projects by producing 2D layout/section drawings for customer approval.
  • Creating a manufacturing pack consisting of drawings, flat patterns and nests for our CNC punch using Radan CAD/CAM software.
  • Producing manufacturing drawings and liaising with colleagues on the shop floor to ensure components are value engineered for a cost-effective solution.
  • Thinking ‘outside of the box’ to solve engineering and manufacturing issues which can arise and having the ability to act and react quickly in all situations.
  • Taking effective instructions from both suppliers and clients in order to deliver the project within the set timeframes.
  • Site visits with Client and/or representatives to provide technical support to create the drawings, extract the relevant information, generate the manufacturing pack for production and ensuring agreed times lines are satisfied and met.

 
The successful CAD Design Engineer will have:

  • Proficient using 3D CAD software SolidWorks and 2D CAD software Radan.
  • Previous experience in designing sheet metal components in SolidWorks preferable.
  • Proficient with Excel, and other Microsoft applications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Previous experience in designing items from casting and extrusion.
  • DriveWorks Experience desirable.
  • Experienced using SolidWorks Static simulation.
  • Degree or HNC/ HND in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Demonstrable experience working with Sheet Metal fabrications and in particular experience working with Aluminum would be very advantageous.
  • Experience gained working within subcontract sheet metal industry and with rainwater goods would be very useful.
  • Radan CAD/CAM experience ideally.
  • Familiarity with CNC Punch and Press Brake preferable.
  • Familiarity with building & architectural drawings and processes ideally.
  • Ability to work with a team of designers and on your own initiative.
  • Ability to think outside the box is fundamental to success for this role as the obvious answer is not always apparent.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
