This Is The New Switch Up Community Hub – Building Futures
June 9, 2023At ARP, we believe in the power of community engagement and its positive impact on people’s lives. We are thrilled to present a case study highlighting our collaboration with Mansfield District Council in transforming the old River Maun Leisure Centre into a new Switch Up Community Hub.
This case study showcases the incredible journey of revitalisation and empowerment and the role ARP’s aluminium rainwater and roofline products played in bringing this project to life.
The Switch Up Community Hub / Mansfield School of Boxing is now a vibrant and bustling community asset, bringing people together and supporting the local area.
Project Overview – Leisure Centre Refurbishment
The project emerged from the shared vision of Mansfield District Council and the local community Switch Up.
Looking at the long-term future of the River Maun Recreation Centre, the Council looked at a community asset transfer. The transfer allowed a very reputable non-profit organisation, Switch Up, to manage the centre for the community and provide much more than a leisure centre.
Recognising the need to steer young people away from crime and gang criminality, they embarked on a mission to create a safe and supportive space where mentorship, physical training, and positive activities could flourish.
ARP’s Involvement with Switch Up Community Hub
Corrosion and joint failures plagued the old guttering system, damaging the Barringer Road building.
The Council approached ARP to produce a long-lasting aluminium rainwater system.
Area Sales Manager Nigel Hancock worked closely with the Design Services department at Mansfield District Council, writing the specification up, following through the tender stage and then working closely with the contractor towards completion.
With a commitment to quality and long-lasting solutions, an aluminium rainwater system was a perfect choice.
ARP’s Legion aluminium guttering was produced and finished in a blue polyester powder coating before being installed, ensuring effective rainwater management while maintaining the facility’s aesthetics.
The reliable and durable Legion aluminium guttering provided by ARP was pivotal in ensuring efficient rainwater management for the facility.
Switch Up Community Hub – Project Execution
The project commenced with a comprehensive refurbishment of the centre to create a community hub and boxing gym.
Mansfield District Council oversaw the renovation process before Nottingham-based Switch Up assumed management responsibilities for the building, now the Mansfield School of Boxing.
From Refurbishment to Empowerment
The transformation of the old leisure centre is one of the most impressive projects ARP has contributed to.
The building now serves as a community hub, supporting and empowering young people in Mansfield through mentorship and positive activities.
Empowering the youth
The Switch Up Community Hub successfully engaged Mansfield’s young people, providing them a supportive environment to develop their potential, build confidence, and channel their energies into positive pursuits.
Crime prevention
By offering mentorship, physical training, and positive activities, the community hub played a significant role in reducing crime and gang criminality in the area.
The hub provides an alternative path for young individuals, fostering personal growth and steering them away from negative influences.
Community revitalisation
The centre’s revitalisation has breathed new life into the community. The Switch Up Community Hub became a focal point for community engagement, promoting a sense of belonging and unity.
